We treated ourselves to a nice gift! 🙂

In these 12 months, we have done a lot, but we will come back to this later, because I can't wait to unwrap our gift of innovation! (Honestly, I don't know how kids at parties manage to wait until after the cake to open their presents).

I'm warning you, it’s quite bulky, because it sprouted in October 2020 and it took 3 months of study, preparation, and assembly, but now it is ready to be shared with all of you. Or at least, with those of you who have at least one pet.

Veterly!

Yes, because it seems that there is a category of doctors that has been quite forgotten in the news these months and that instead needs all the possible support to bring even more value to society: veterinarians.

Veterly was born to facilitate communication between veterinarians and pet owners, in order to place the well-being of the latter at the center. Better care for animals means having calmer owners and above all, veterinarians who are more satisfied with their work (and who can earn a bit more than they do today).

Indeed, consider that from the studies we conducted in Pick phase (our pre-sprouting), it emerged that veterinarians spend more than 1 hour a day communicating inefficiently with their clients and another 40 minutes a day organizing their schedules. If you also add that they often have difficulty getting overdue payments and are in many cases (about 50%) also alone in managing everything, you get a clearer picture of the situation in which these frontier doctors operate.

Sustainable Startups

Improving the professional condition of those who carry out activities with high human capital intensity is one of the SDGs, or Sustainable Development Goals, and more precisely for Veterly number 8, target 8.2, which invites us to achieve higher levels of economic productivity through diversification, technological upgrading, and innovation, focusing on high value-added and high labor intensity sectors.

In recent months we have linked all the business ideas of Startup Bakery to at least one of the SDGs. Creating innovative (B2B SaaS using AI), sustainable, and impactful startups from day one is much better than trying to rectify situations that were born with missions very far from that purpose.

The rationale is the same as that which drives us not to intervene on existing startups: it's much more agile and profitable for us, for our co-founders, for investors, and for the industrial partners who buy them, to create “solid” startups from the beginning, also with an eye on economic sustainability, as well as social.

But we are just at the beginning.

A great year of innovation

To define last year as “great” might seem rather generous, but thinking about it, it will be the year that all those who lived it will remember indelibly. In this period of lockdowns, smart working, and video calls, we managed to take many “small” innovative steps:

  1. We proposed our innovative model of startup studio to the market, raising 750 thousand euros from our enlightened investors. Enlightened because they immediately understood the difference with incubators and accelerators, when our explanatory video (thank you for your patience! :)) did not yet exist.

  2. We have gathered around Startup Bakery team of digital and startup world chefs, of which I am honored to be a part. Professionals, entrepreneurs, and startups with exits behind them, who channel their energies to keep producing startups while simultaneously creating other digital entrepreneurs.

  3. We have sprouted Donux, our UX studio for software products. And with Donux, we have embarked on the entrepreneurial journey of 2 brilliant professionals: our Co-Founders Giuseppe and Giustino.

  4. We have conceived and studied together with Advisors, Investors, and Co-Founders 14 business ideas, validated 2 in terms of problem-solution fit, and sprouted 1: the aforementioned Veterly, co-founded with Luca and Annalisa.

  5. We have created the beta of our AI software (Artificial Intelligence), which still doesn't have a name (suggestions are welcome), but which already shows us great potential to support the identification and assessment of business niches in which to sprout startups. (In our own small way, we are innovating too).

Startup Bakery: act two

The next innovation will also be quite full, but we hope for a somewhat calmer context for everyone. We have started by opening a fundraising on our first Startup Bakery Lab and on Veterly, but in the slots of April and October we will sprout another 2 startups among those in the validation process.

Innovating is now essential for anyone, especially for businesses considered more “traditional”. It starts with veterinarians and then who knows where we will end up causing a stir in the coming months. In the meantime: happy innovation Startup Bakery!
