A further €1,200,000 adds to the €750,000 raised by the Italian Startup Studio’s investment vehicle at the end of 2020, for a total of almost 2 million euros. 39 investors involved to date.
The capital raised will be used, according to the “sidecar” model, both to run the central structure and for the pre-seed and seed activities of Startup Bakery’s first 3 initiatives by the end of 2022: Veterly, the solution to simplify the relationship between veterinarians and pet owners, a new PropTech platform due out shortly, and a solution dedicated to SilverTech, currently being spun up.
The €3.5M capital raise on the second Lab is open, to finance the Studio’s further ten initiatives over the 2023-2026 period.
Milan, 14 February 2022: The Startup Studio Startup Bakery today announced that it has completed the capital raise around its first “Lab”, its own investment vehicle, for a total of 1,950,000 euros. 1,200,000 euros have in fact been added to the 750,000 raised at the end of 2020, thanks to the trust placed in it by a total of 39 investors.
“This is an important milestone reached just two years after the Studio’s birth, with one startup already on the market, one about to launch and one being spun up, exactly as our model foresaw, commented Alessandro Arrigo, CEO of Startup Bakery, The ‘sidecar’ financial model involves creating an investment vehicle alongside the company itself. The capital raised through these vehicles is then used both to finance the studio and to finance the startups the studio creates”.
What the first Lab has raised will therefore support, by the end of the year, the pre-seed and seed activities of Startup Bakery’s first 3 initiatives: Veterly, the solution to simplify the relationship between veterinarians and pet owners, launched last year and led from 2022 by Laura Venturini, a successful entrepreneur in the digital and PetTech fields, formerly CEO and founder of Quindo and Cane in Viaggio; a new PropTech platform completing its 700,000 euro seed raise; and a new solution that will operate in SilverTech, currently being spun up.
Unlike accelerators and incubators, startup studios do not “host” existing early-stage startups but create new companies from scratch, investing directly in every project. This model makes it possible to reduce the risk of project failure, speed up the growth process and bring them rapidly to an exit with industrial partners involved, financially too, from day zero. Startup Bakery, specifically, is a startup studio dedicated to creating B2B SaaS companies characterised by a strong Artificial Intelligence component and oriented towards sustainability and the achievement of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals, the sustainable development objectives promoted by the United Nations).
“Startup Bakery applied the lean method to itself: it first launched a Proof of Concept, verified that the market responded positively and then, only once that was validated, launched a new, larger Lab of 3,500,000 euros to finance the Studio’s further ten initiatives over the 2023-2026 period”, added Alessandro Arrigo, CEO of Startup Bakery.
The further raising vehicle, launched on the basis of the success recorded by the first Lab, aims to extend the potential audience to other types of investor too, such as companies, family officers and professional investors. “We are open to receiving expressions of interest from now on”, concluded Arrigo.
Startup Bakery
Startup Bakery is the Italian startup studio founded by Alessandro Arrigo and Angelo Cavallini in February 2020 with the goal of bringing to life sustainable B2B SaaS companies with a strong Artificial Intelligence component, and of allowing founders, companies and professional investors to express their potential.
The Studio guarantees the serial application of tools, skills and methodologies already present in the team, and stands beside the co-founder through every phase, from the raise to the exit, making them progressively more independent. Thanks to a proprietary algorithm, it can count on advanced capabilities for collecting and processing market data in order to identify niches of interest to occupy, while the cyclical validation of the initiatives launched is guaranteed by the application of the lean method.
The user-centred Interaction Design approach guaranteed by the know-how of Donux, the UX/UI company spun up by Startup Bakery itself, finally delivers simple, effective user experiences.
Startup Bakery offers industrial partners a new way of doing open innovation, entering the capital of the new startups and progressively accompanying them in their development up to acquiring them.
The SB “Labs”, the group’s operating companies, have the task of financially supporting the initiatives spun up in the pre-seed and seed phases (in co-investment), as well as building their core team (HR).
At the end of November Startup Bakery closed a capital increase of €750,000. In October 2020 it spun up its first startup, Veterly, and in April 2021 it opened the €700,000 capital raise in its favour.
